Privacy Policy
I’m a one-person operation. I don’t have a data team, a marketing department, or any interest in doing anything weird with your information.
This page explains what information I collect, why, and what I do with it. Here’s what’s actually happening behind the scenes.
What I Collect
Information You Give Me Directly
If you sign up for the email list, I collect your email address. If you contact me through the contact form, I collect whatever you include in your message (name, email, message content). That’s it.
Information Collected Automatically
When you visit flavorindexlab.com, certain information is collected automatically through cookies and similar technologies:
- Analytics data: I use Google Analytics to understand how people find and use the site — things like which pages get traffic, how long people stay, and what search terms bring them here. Google Analytics collects your IP address (anonymized), browser type, device type, pages visited, and referring site. I use this data to make better content decisions. I don’t use it to identify you personally.
- Cookies: The site uses cookies for basic functionality (keeping the site running properly) and analytics (Google Analytics). Your browser lets you control cookies — you can block or delete them through your browser settings.
- Hosting logs: Hostinger (my web host) automatically logs IP addresses, access times, and pages requested as part of standard server operation. I don’t actively review these logs unless troubleshooting a technical issue.
Affiliate Links
When you click an affiliate link on Flavor Index Lab (like an Amazon Associates link), the retailer’s site may set its own cookies and collect information under their own privacy policy. I receive commission reports that show aggregate sales data — I can see that someone bought a product through my link, but I can’t see who specifically made the purchase.
How I Use Your Information
- Email list: To send you content updates. That’s it. No selling, no sharing, no renting your email to anyone.
- Analytics: To understand what content is working, where traffic comes from, and what to write next.
- Contact form responses: To reply to your message.
Who Gets Your Information
I don’t sell, trade, or share your personal information with third parties for their marketing purposes. The services that process data on my behalf are:
- Hostinger — web hosting
- Google Analytics — site analytics
- Email service provider — email list management (ConvertKit, Mailchimp, or similar — whichever I’m using at the time)
- Amazon Associates (and any other affiliate programs) — only aggregate commission data, not your personal info
Each of these services has their own privacy policy governing how they handle data.
Your Choices
- Email list: Every email includes an unsubscribe link. Use it anytime. No hard feelings.
- Cookies: You can disable cookies through your browser settings. The site will still work, but analytics won’t track your visit.
- Google Analytics opt-out: Google offers a browser add-on to opt out of Google Analytics tracking at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.
- Contact me: If you want to know what information I have about you, want it deleted, or have any questions, email me at hello@flavorindexlab.com.
California Residents (CCPA)
If you’re a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information I collect, request its deletion, and opt out of its sale. I don’t sell personal information, so there’s nothing to opt out of on that front. For any CCPA-related requests, contact me at hello@flavorindexlab.com.
Children’s Privacy
Flavor Index Lab is not directed at children under 13. I don’t knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If I learn I’ve collected information from a child under 13, I’ll delete it.
Changes to This Policy
If I change this privacy policy, I’ll update the “last updated” date at the top of this page. For significant changes, I’ll note it on the site or in the email list.
